STOLEN FROM THE SUBURBS AND SAVING INNOCENCE

What a breath of fresh air.  I've gotten so disgusted with the fake TV shows and films being produced about sex trafficking that I don't even watch them anymore.  From Eden, to Taken, to 8 Minutes, and even Gigolo's or Cathouse - I don't know when I've seen something on TV or film that even REMOTELY resembles the types of sex trafficking I've witnessed in the now 40 years total I've been witnessing many forms of this crime.

So trust me - I don't go "oh look another film" and turn it on anymore.  I accidentally came upon the film "Stolen From the Suburbs" and it gripped my attention because IT DID.   Granted, it was more of a description of what I call "trafficking" that just "sex trafficking" but it was still an honest portrayal of a subcategory of sex trafficking.

There are criminal rings that traffick in human flesh.  These types of people will traffick the men for labor or porn (depending upon their age and looks).  The women are trafficked into porn, prostitution, and/or labor.  If someone crosses them, dies, or even appears they might go to the cops  - then the body is sold for organs.  They use these people to traffick drugs, and even to blackmail the clients.  This type of ring is more of a criminal operation of which sex trafficking is just one part of what they do - but still it was accurate for what it was portraying.

The women that are trafficked are often having no background in prostitution.  Not even child abuse. The reason?  Because portraying their innocence and "breaking them in" is part of the fun for the traffickers and their customers.  Granted, their customers are not the "typical john".  Only a certain type of client will be attracted to a man or woman who is absolutely terrified, drugged up, behind a locked door, etc., - but they're there and they pay well.

I did object to them saying they used Backpage however because the truth is these organized trafficking rings are not.  They know the heat is on - but then again this film might have been based on an older case.  Currently in 2015 organized trafficking rings are operating off line mostly in massage parlors, strip clubs, etc. or they're on Snapchat, Wickr, Grinder, Instagram, etc.  They're looking for ways to advertise that don't verify phone numbers or use bank cards like Backpage offers now.

But still I found the show accurate.  I went onto this group's site at www.savinginnocence.org and also found a breath of fresh air.  While there was fund raising activities on the site, which is a necessary evil of this work, it wasn't dominating the site.  I found useful information, a hotline for victims to call for help, and even job listings that sounded like these people  really do care and know what they're doing.

So I've emailed them asking to meet and find out more about them for our newsletter, and upcoming TV series of our own "Leaving the Life" which I'll be airing on public access TV and social media as I get filming.  I've set up at site at www.leaving-the-life-tvshow.com  I'll keep you posted as I find out more about them.
