First of all, it's not always a "gang crime". I'm sorry but I witnessed Iran Contra in the 1980's when the gangs were blamed for drugs. I also watched as the Juvenile Justice Act was passed in 1974 shortly before. So I have lived through a government run conspiracy where African American gangs were blamed for their actions they were forced into by poverty and discrimination once before. The JJA had dealers targeting juveniles to run and sell drugs by giving them a slap on the wrist. Suddenly I'm seeing parents getting their children to run and sell the drugs. My mother worked at the juvenile courts and would tell me what was going on back then while I at 14, was being approached by dealers to get involved in drug and gun crime. My mom scared me out of it - but no one warned us about sex trafficking. So when I saw drugs being unloaded off boats and planes - and then saw women being loaded back onto those boats and planes to be sold into prostitution - well I had the world telling me, and anyone else talking about this subject, that we were "crazy" and "white slavery doesn't exist anymore".
Well it does and I started the movement that led to the Trafficking Act of 2000. Do I get credit? Of course not as the conquerors write the history. But if you look at news clips I have up at www.hightehmadam.com you'll see I opened the first safe house in 1984 for which I was arrested for it accused of "running a brothel". Then I launched the first hotline, and 12 step program. The 12 step program was so that victims could have the court not send them to jail as criminals through laws already set in place by AA for alcoholics who during Prohibition were considered criminals, and addicts who today still are.
However, once the Trafficking Act of 2000 was passed - the religious right wanted at the money. So the TVRA of 2003 was launched by Randall Tobias. This said very clearly that any government money had to go to "faith based groups" of which a 12 step program is not. It also stated no govt. agency could work with anyone who did not sign an "anti-prostitution pledge" of which a 12 step program can't sign anymore than NA can sign a pledge to fight the legal marijuana industry or AA can try and outlaw distilleries. Even the author, Michael Horowitz, of the Trafficking Act of 2000 has been quoted as saying the movement we founded has been "hijacked".
When I first wrote the CA AG's office about a sex trafficking ring involving the Triad I'd been dealing with since 2006 who is trafficking women across this country, and in connection with many corrupt police, she told me "there aren't any laws to address this" in a general statement. I wrote her back the RICO laws covered this quite fine and included a letter from the author of the RICO act to support my statement. She then issued a report to Washington that she "needed more money to fight multi-national crime" which referred to this as wherever there's sex trafficking, there's also other crime. I wrote her back I had information as to where the heads of this operation lived, and evidence against them, including victim statements if she would please contact me to discuss. A week after this, she announced she's running for Senate.
I can't say I blame her as I've now had female deputy attorney general's, prosecutors, police, and even politicians report to me they're being threatened by police officers, and stalked by private investigators, with threats to do smear campaigns on them as the Chinese do (look at the KFC lawsuit if you don't know what I mean by that). This is them telling me they're too scared to go after these men essentially.
I have watched while all these politicians have used a movement I founded to advance their careers, and then abandon the work they started to help these victims. I'm STILL waiting on a call about a trafficking ring that's now shifted from Chinese to Korean women who the Seattle police, as well the Wichita, police, were the only ones willing to arrest anyone in this ring.
That's not good enough. Because of today's technology, and the Triad's use of some of the best hackers in the world, I can't get some victims out from under them to safety. The only way to free some of these victims is to have the men in the ring arrested. The president of China has committed to this action - and it's having an impact. Three top men in this trafficking ring who are connected to their govt. have been arrested. Over 3000 victims have been freed from prostitution over there to the point where it's affected their economy. But he had to do something because where there's trafficking - there's HIV/AIDS. Which is confirmed in China, Tijuana, Korea, Thailand, and some parts of the USA.
I run the only hotline in this country that gets calls from not just those who consider themselves "trafficking victims" but those who want help to leave the sex industry in any form, who may or may not feel they're a trafficking victim, who feel they aren't safe calling the police. With good reason as we've seen with the LAPD now raping of prostitutes, the NY cop pimping 10 women, the Chicago police using a 14 year old girl in pornography, the DEA agents owning a strip club, Holtzclaw, and the list goes on. Yet I can't get a return phone call from the AG's office while she comes out in the press like she's "fighting trafficking".
Something you might hear about on Pacifica Radio had not the AG come in with an audit threatening to "shut them down if you put Jody on the air". I heard that straight out of the board's mouth.
So you want me to believe this is a real concern to fight sex trafficking?
